Matt Cohen and his Camera

Posted on: October 26, 2009 — Posted in: Evan rambles

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Matthew Cohen (An impressive Guy with a Talented Eye)

I met Matt at the SailNewport fundraiser and he shot these pics of the band. Got a chance to talk with him later (at an EGB show he came out to a few months after), and he’s legit cool (that’s why I wanted to give him his own page). A “real” sailor (soon to be a certified Captain after logging 20,000 nautical miles!) it’s impressive to see him excel as a professional photographer as well. You’ll experience his ocean passion on his website: note the beautiful sail on the splashpage HERE.

We see a lot of photography. Matt’s got serious talent and just a genuine eye for this stuff (notice these photos: the use of color and the blend from the focus to out of focus). His work stands out.

Look around.
Maybe send him an email. He’s our friend, and if you meet
him he’ll more than likely be yours as well!

Recording Notes

Posted on: October 19, 2009 — Posted in: Evan rambles

If you haven’t heard, we’re putting together another one.  And this will be the best one yet.

I’m going to top myself on this one. Yes, yes, you know this already (Evan, you’re always trying to improve you say). Thought I would give you the “laundry list” of why this recording will differ, and why it will be the best yet (you know, something like…recording notes).

1) We have a producer on this one, and he’s in it from the beginning (pre-production and all). He’s challenging me in ways I’ve never been exposed to. So, I’m re-writing lyrics, asking a lot of questions that have to do with musical direction and such. Emotionally, it’s a bit like open heart surgery at times, although I won’t belittle such an operation: I’d rather be working on music than having doctors work on me.

2) We’ve spent the last year putting together a valid working studio space dedicated for the sole purpose of recording this and future records (we rehabbed a very old barn on Phil’s property and completely modernized it). Look for it in some videos later.

3) We’re out to “capture” the EGB sound. The new trio. John in all his hammond glory. Phil and his live “John Bonham-esque” heavy sound on the drums. The vibe. The expansion. The whole bit.

4) We are combing through an “A” list of 25 tunes. There’s more. There’s even new ones that the guys have barely played through. Yet, we don’t want to stroll past some of the gems we’ve been doing for the past two years.

This brings us to 5.

5) How do we release this?
Do we make a 60 min play CD (with 10 songs?). Do we release short 5 song compilations for less? Do we make a monster double record.
I’m toying with the idea of making a part 2 of the record which includes long drawn out fantastical sonic voyages (you know? like mom used to make?).
(Think pink floyd people).

We still haven’t made that call yet (we’re spending our minutes focusing on the music and “the sound” right now).

I encourage you to email in, post your thoughts on our new FACEBOOK FAN PAGE, (if you’re not on there, get to it), and even my personal facebook or myspace account.

LAW HAS BEEN PASSED IN THE HOUSE OF EGB.
We won’t be playing many live shows until this recording is finished.
(Although don’t miss NOVEMBER 5th), it will be historic!

Ok. Talk to you all in a minute.
E
