Last night, as the island was getting ready for “Christmas night” the island lost power (we had a few hours of massive rain that afternoon that filled the sewer system and there was a short somewhere). I was sitting at the Bazbar (as I am right now) at my laptop composing a sort of happy holidays note that doesn’t sound generic and also sounds sincere (my birthday is on Christmas and the holidays actually mean a lot to me).
So, the power goes out and the few people who have come in for an early dinner and drinks are still illuminated by the candles. After the initial moment when we all expect the power to come whopping back, and it doesn’t, there’s a pause. The fans, the coolers, the radio, the “Sounds” are all gone, and it’s eerily quiet except for the boats rocking in the harbor a few feet away.
So, I pulled out my acoustic and started to play. Along with the staff, there was maybe 8 people, and we gathered around the bar and started to sing along. I’ve posted the “setlist” below (haha!) although I don’t think anyone will know that this blog is here!
Point is: The power going out feels rather symbolic of everything happening right now in the world. The change, the slowdown, whatever you want to call it. Whatever your guitar is? Whatever it is that keeps you passionate, positive, when the power goes out, do it. Don’t think. (I didn’t). Just do it. And thank you nike.

Yep, we’re days away from our trip to St. Barts. Just wanted to thank everyone for a bang-up year! And, I want to thank everyone who came out last night for our going away party in Haverhill, it was great to see people brave the cold (and let me tell you, it was FREEZING!).
Record is going well and we’ll continue working on it when we get home in January. There won’t be many shows until the spring as it’s our first priority right now over all else. Gotta get that baby done!!!
I’ll check in again before NYE to wish everyone a great 2010!
With love!
E
December already.
Let’s see…shows, finishing the recording, and Christmas, and New Years Eve, and a return to the little French Island (St. Barths). Yeah, December is here.
The band will return to St. Barths again for the Christmas/NYE run. In case you don’t know about these yearly excursions, I’ve included the original St. Barths blog (from 2007), in the PAGES section to your right.
It’s become a little home for us (we recorded a record there and now have many friends and family on the island). This is also where we met and played with Jimmy Buffett.
Plenty of shows on the way: SHOWS PAGE
Recording will be in the mixing stages by Jan, looking at a March release. If you’re on the facebook fanpage you’ll get something special. (I don’t know what that is yet, but Christmas is right around the corner).
Below: “Lover” (yes, it’s on the new record).
Thanks to Jeff Ziff (The “Sodafixer”) for taking this.
